County. Although it was never my purpose to write of Fresno County as
Fresno County, and although most of these poems could have been written
in any section of the country, nevertheless the luxuriant vineyards, the
heavy orchards, the miles of desolate pasture land, and back of it all
the tremendous mountains heaved against the east, hold for me an appeal
that I hope has crept into my verse." |
