Leaf from an Italian antiphonal (c. 1500) on vellum in black ink with red rubrics.

Antiphonals were books containing the sung portions of the Divine Office. The manuscript leaf offered here is large, typical of the medieval book, so it could be shared by a choir.

Recto contains 4 bars and music and 5 lines of lyrics. Verso contains 5 bars of music and 5 lines of lyrics. Verso opens with a grand initial "S" in mauve, green, blue, and yellow on a gold background with floral ornamentation.

The chant presented on this leaf is the "Stetit Angelus," the Offertory chant for the feast of St. Michael, the Archangel. Some crinkling at edges.
