Beautiful 15-volume set of Shakespeare’s works in stunning Sangorski & Sutcliffe bindings. First Valpy edition (1832–1834), with 170 illustrations from the plates in Boydell’s Shakespeare.
The text follows the Malone edition and includes Samuel Johnson’s famous “Preface to Shakespeare”. The bindings by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, one of the most celebrated binderies of the era, are of the highest quality and in exceptionally fine condition.

Small octavo (6.75 inches high), early 20th-century polished calf by Sangorski & Sutcliffe for Marshall Field & Company (binder stamp on front free endpapers), elaborately gilt-decorated spines, leather spine labels, gilt-ruled boards, gilt dentelles, patterned boards and endpapers, top edges gilt. 15 volumes (complete). One gathering (two leaves) detached (but present) in Volume IV. Very minor scuffing to some boards and a touch of wear to a few spine ends. An outstanding set.
